> Made from folded pieces of paper,
printed with macro photographs of painterly marks taken
around artists studios and from the finished works of
other artists as well as my own.
> The irregular polygon is made from
so-called sonobo units that slot together without glue. It
is deliberately left open to suggest that ever more units
could be added.
> It is both a regular and an
irregular structure, struggling to hold its own weight. To
me it’s a symbol of the contemporary state of painting:
slightly unruly, an accretion of history as old as
humanity, with some openings still, a strange anxious
beauty.
